Phillips to serve as backup catcher

Guillermo Quiroz was claimed by Seattle off waivers on Friday, meaning Toronto will purchase the contract of Jason Phillips, who will serve as the temporary backup catcher until Gregg Zaun returns from the 15-day disabled list.
